Here are the holiday closings for New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day

City offices in Norfolk and Virginia Beach will be closed for the New Year holiday.

Here’s the schedule:

Norfolk

Government offices, including City Hall and all recreation centers and libraries, will close Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 and Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 in observance of the New Year holiday.

The closure includes the offices of the Commissioner of the Revenue, DMV Select, City Treasurer and the Consolidated Courts Complex.

All offices will reopen at normal business hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2.

Garbage and recycling collection scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019 will take place on Saturday, Jan. 5, 2019.

Requests for bulk waste collection on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019 must be made before 3 p.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018.

To schedule bulk waste collection, call the Norfolk Cares Center at 757-664-6510 or fill out a request online here and click on the Request Tracker.

The Household Hazardous Waste and E-waste site will be closed Monday, Dec. 31, 2018 and Tuesday, Jan. 1, 2019.

Residents can drop-off unwanted E-waste at the Division of Towing and Recovery at 1188-A Lance Road, 24-hours a day and seven days a week.

All offices will reopen at normal business hours on Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2019.

Virginia Beach

City offices and facilities will be operating under varied schedules during the upcoming holiday season.

Most city of Virginia Beach offices and facilities will be closed Jan. 1, 2019.

However, the following agencies have alternate schedules:

  • Waste Collection
    • ​Tuesday, Jan. 1 — Trash/Recycling will be collected on Monday, Dec. 31.
    • VB Landfill and Resource Recovery Center will be closed on Jan. 1.
  • All city community recreation centers
    • Dec. 31 — Open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. (regular operating hours)
    • Jan. 1 — Close at 5 p.m.
  • All city parks and park facilities
    • Dec. 31 — Open 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (regular operating hours)
    • Jan. 1 — Close at 5 p.m.
  • All city public libraries will be closed Jan. 1, 2019.
    • Note:  All public libraries will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31.
  • Joint Use Library at TCC/Virginia Beach Campus will be closed Dec. 20-31 and Jan. 1, 2019.
  • Sandler Center for the Performing Arts
    • Jan. 1 — Closed
  • The Francis Land House will be open Dec. 28-31.
  • The Princess Anne County Training School/Union Kempsville High School Museum, located within the Renaissance Academy, follows the Virginia Beach City Public School operating schedule and will be closed Dec. 21-Jan. 1.
  • Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center
    • Dec. 26 — Jan. 2 — Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Virginia Beach Animal Care and Adoption Center
    • Jan. 1— Closed
  • Virginia Beach Farmers Market — Closed all day Jan. 1.
  • Virginia Beach Visitor Center at Chesapeake Bay Center at First Landing State Park
    • Dec. 31 — Open 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    • Jan. 1 — Closed
  • Virginia Beach Visitor Information Center at 2100 Parks Ave.
    • Dec. 31 — Open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • Jan. 1 — Closed

The following state facilities will be closed Jan. 1.

  • Virginia Beach Circuit Court and clerk’s offices
  • Virginia Beach General District Court
  • Virginia Beach Juvenile & Domestic Relations Court and the Juvenile Court Service Unit
  • Virginia Beach Office of the Commonwealth’s Attorney
  • Virginia Beach Public Health Department
