Two people walking their dogs discovered a man’s body in a wooded area on Christmas Eve, police say.

Authorities identified the man as Charles Wayne Cooper of Norfolk.

He was 26 years old.

Cooper was previously reported as missing to James City County Police earlier this month. Police said they had received information that Cooper was found safe; however, it was later determined this information was not accurate.

James City County Police were dispatched to a wooded, creek area behind the 6600 block of Richmond Road around 4:30 p.m. Monday after the body was discovered, police said in a news release.

Cooper’s body was transported to the Tidewater Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.

The Medical Examiner has not ruled on the cause of death, but no foul play is suspected.

The case remains under investigation.
