First Lady Melania Trump visits Hampton Roads

First Lady Melania Trump visited Joint Base Langley-Eustis Wednesday morning and thanked U.S. service members for their efforts.

Trump and Patrick Shanahan, deputy secretary of defense, met with soldiers from the base and local school children, according to a news release from JBLE.

“She came, said a few words and then left,” said Airman Anthony Nin, who works as a photojournalist at the base and was working the front desk of JBLE’s public affairs office this morning.

She noted that many in the crowd had just returned home from deployment. Some had been responding to natural disasters such as Hurricane Michael.

In addition, Trump will take a tour of the F-22 Raptor, according to the news release.

Cmdr. Dave Hecht, spokesman from Naval Air Force Atlantic, Trump will also visit the USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) aircraft carrier in Norfolk.
