Original story:
A building at M&J Motors in Yorktown sustained significant damage from a fire Thursday.
York County Fire and Life Safety firefighters were called to the scene at 2024 George Washington Memorial Highway just before 11:30 a.m., Fire Chief Stephen Kopczynski said.
When first responders arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke coming from an “accessory” building next to the main building. The building is about 20-by-30 feet in size.
The fire was under control around 12:30 p.m. At that point, firefighters were working to extinguish hot spots, Kopczynski said.
There were no injuries.
Route 17 was closed during the incident. All lanes south of Victory Boulevard were closed as of 12:44 p.m., according to a VDOT tweet.
York County Fire and Life Safety was assisted by fire departments from Poquoson, Langley Air Force Base and Newport News.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
