The former chairman of the Williamsburg Planning Commission was found guilty of assault and battery following a trial Wednesday.
Demetrios Florakis, 51, was arrested after a fight with his wife on Oct. 1 near the intersection of Harrison Avenue and Richmond Road. During the altercation, Florakis ran over his estranged wife, Megan, with a car and broke her leg, said police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley.
Demetrios Florakis was represented by attorney and state Sen. Tommy Norment, and sentenced 10 days with all of that suspended, according to the Williamsburg-James City County Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court clerk’s office.
Megan Florakis, 38, also had a hearing on Wednesday on a domestic assault charge related to the same incident.
She had been charged with domestic assault after Demetrios Florakis provided photographic evidence to police of bruises she had given him during an argument the night before, Riley said.
On Wednesday, Megan Florakis was found not guilty on the charge and her three protective orders against her husband were dropped.
Demetrois Florakis also faces a felony maiming charge, which was certified to a higher court after a preliminary hearing on Nov. 2. The case is scheduled to be heard at 1 p.m. on Jan. 7 in the Williamsburg-James City County Circuit Court.
