NORFOLK – The city’s Department of Human Services finalized 13 adoptions that placed foster care children into permanent homes in 2018.
They joined 747 children statewide who found their forever families through adoption, according to a news release from the city
In celebration of Adoption Day on Nov. 19, Norfolk Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court judges, adoption professionals, child advocates, and attorneys will recognize the adoptions of children and encourage the public to consider adopting children.
The event will begin at 2 p.m., and a reception will follow in the courthouse rotunda.
During Norfolk’s City Council meeting on Nov. 20, Mayor Kenny Alexander will honor and recognize adoptions in the city with a proclamation.
In Virginia, approximately 1,600 children in foster care, 52 of them in Norfolk, await adoption, according to the news release.
Anyone considering adoption may participate in classes for adoptive and foster parents, offered by Norfolk’s Department of Human Services.
