VIRGINIA BEACH — Come out to the Virginia Beach Convention Center if you want to learn more about Nutrition as Medicine with Sentara Healthcare on Nov. 13 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Sentara Heart and Vascular is hosting the one-day Nutrition as Medicine conference to help raise awareness and educate people about the impact their diet can have on their health.
Members of the Sentara Ornish Lifestyle Medicine Program, including Dr. Gunadhar Panigrahi, Sentara cardiology specialist, will participate in the event, the first of its kind in Hampton Roads.
It will feature national experts speaking on the benefits of a plant-based lifestyle and the positive effects it can have on widespread chronic diseases such as heart disease, diabetes and obesity.
Speakers include Dr. Dean Ornish, Dr. Neal Barnard, Dr. T. Colin Campbell, Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn and Dr. William Li.
Topics will cover insights to help individuals take control of their lives through nutrition, how whole food, plant-based eating could help avoid and even reverse some chronic diseases, and special sessions focused on diabetes and heart disease.
Local Ornish program graduates will also share their success stories.
In addition to their key-notes, they will be serving a plant-based lunch buffet, healthy snacks and refreshments, showing participants how to practice some simple wellness techniques, and are inviting participants to explore their nutrition and wellness vendor village.
