A Yorktown man riding a bicycle in York County was killed Thursday night in a hit-and-run vehicle crash.

A vehicle fled the scene after striking the bicyclist just after 7 p.m. on Lakeside Drive at Yorkville Road, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya, Virginia State Police spokeswoman.

The man, identified as Brian Leonard Utne, was taken to Riverside Regional Hospital where he died from his injuries, Anaya said.

He was 50 years old.

“Identification numbers on the debris (marker lights) left at the scene of the accident, now indicate that the suspect vehicle involved in the hit and run is a Ford pickup truck grey in color, a 1999-2001 year model,” Anaya said Friday morning.

Virginia State Police’s Reconstruction Team are investigating the crash.

Police believe the vehicle that hit Utne may have front end damage to the marker lights and lower portion of the grill, Anaya said.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash or have any information on the whereabouts of the driver to contact the Virginia State Police at 757-424-6800 or at question@vsp.virginia.gov.
