If you see a white Ford Focus parked around your neighborhood, or someone walking around your house wearing a green vest this week, you probably don’t need to call the cops.

From Thursday through Saturday, Newport News Waterworks is sending meter readers out into York County neighborhoods to read utility meters on residents’ homes.

The York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office announced the meter readers’ schedule on its Facebook page Monday morning, giving a full description of the vehicle and meter readers.

Sheriff’s office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said they are publicizing the information because authorities received some concerned calls the last time meter readers were out in neighborhoods.

The meter readers will be in neighborhoods throughout the county, from the Tabb area up to Upper York County.

The meter readers will wear a bright green safety vest that says “water meter reader” on the back, and drive a white Ford Focus with a sticker reading “Alexander Contracting” with a dolphin logo.
