A $5,000 reward is being offered for information in connection with the Friday burglary of The Toano General Store, according to the county’s website.
Between the overnight hours of Thursday and Friday, the side door of The Toano General Store at 7960 Richmond Road was pried open, said Stephanie Williams, James City County Police spokeswoman.
Ammunition, firearms and currency were stolen from the store, which is a federal firearms licensee, authorities said. At 8:30 a.m. on Friday, the owner of the store reported the burglary to police.
Other information, including the value and the kind of firearms taken from the store, was not made immediately available.
The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the National Shooting Sports Foundation are each offering $2,500 for information regarding the incident that leads to an arrest, authorities said.
The award is result of a partnership between the two organizations in which the National Shooting Sports Foundation matches rewards from ATF in cases of firearms theft from any federal firearms licensee, authorities said.
Anyone with information is encouraged to report by calling ATF at 800-ATF-GUNS or sending and email to ATFTips@atf.gov. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to ATF by using the ReportIt app or visiting ReportIt online.
Information can also be provided by contacting JCC Police at 757-253-1800 or 888-LOCK-U-UP. All calls and tips will be kept confidential, authorities said.
