Help celebrate Ghent as one of America’s top neighborhoods

NORFOLK — The American Planning Association designated Ghent as one of America’s Great Places.

And Ghent wants to celebrate.

Join city leaders and Ghent community partners as they unveil a plaque marking the achievement on Thursday at 5:15 p.m. on the Hague Footbridge at Mowbray Arch Parking at Chrysler Museum.

After the unveiling, the public is welcome to attend a small reception at the Chrysler Museum of Art.

Guests are then invited to join the fun of the NEON festival, which kicks off that evening.

APA’s Great Places in America program recognizes the streets, neighborhoods, and public spaces in the United States demonstrating exceptional character, quality, and planning — attributes that enrich communities, facilitate economic growth, and inspire others around the country.

“Ghent has an amazing history’” said George Homewood, Norfolk’s interim director of development. “But more important is that Ghent is currently a thriving and inclusive community with a variety of shopping, living and entertainment options for all. We are also planning for the future and making great strides towards social and environmental resilience in the Ghent community.”
