The calm and quiet of Lake Matoaka will be interrupted Friday evening by a bit of revelry.
The Virginia Beer Company is presenting Revelry, the first concert they’ve organized at the Martha Wren Briggs Amphitheatre at Lake Matoaka. According to a news release, the evening will feature live music, food trucks and beer samples from VBC – including two newly-released beers.
“Ever since we came back to Williamsburg to open the brewery, we’ve dreamt of putting on an event for the community at Lake Matoaka,” said VBC co-founder Robby Willey. “The amphitheater is a stunning setting for a show. The changing of the seasons should make this the perfect time of year to enjoy live music by the lake.”
Gates open at 5:30 p.m. and music kicks off at 6:30 p.m. when BrassWind takes the stage. They will be followed by headliner Three Sheets to the Wind, named best cover band for the last seven years by Style Magazine, at 8 p.m.
Willey told WYDaily he hopes to make the event an annual affair.
Revelry will offer the new brew named Somebody’s Baby, an “easy drinking” lager, Willey said – just the second lager VBC has ever produced. He added the name was a reference to the Jackson Browne song.
One Night in Georgia “is a subtle, refreshing beer,” he said, that isn’t “puckeringly sour.”
It’s brewed with peach puree but has the tartness to compliment the fruit. Willey said the lager is intended to toast the end of summer, while the Berliner Weiss was meant to welcome the arrival of autumn.
Tickets are available online for $18, and students with a valid William & Mary ID card and can save $5 when buying tickets using code ROLLTRIBE18.
Online ticket sales end at 5 p.m. Friday.
Tickets are available for $22 at the gate. Valid ID is required for entry. The event will take place, rain or shine.
Outside food and drink are not permitted. Parking is available at the campus parking deck on Ukrop Way.
Old City Barbeque and the Catering Company of Williamsburg will provide the food.
“Our goal was to offer something for everyone…an evening of music that everyone can enjoy from students to visitors to long-time residents,” VBC Taproom Manager and Business Developer Luci Legaspi said. “This will be a night showcasing music from the 1960’s through the 1980’s, and I guarantee there’s going to be at least one song where you’ll find yourself singing & dancing along.”
