Costumes, Wiener Dog races and treats: It’s time again for the city’s Canine Carnival

Calling all canines: An afternoon of “tail-waggin’ fun” awaits.

The City of Williamsburg Parks and Recreation Department is having its third-annual Canine Carnival on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Waller Mill Park,  901 Airport Road.

The event will feature creative costumes, a Dachshund race and dog caricatures.

The carnival runs from 1 to 4 p.m.

Furry friends can be brought to the carnival on a leash and visit various booths, including caricaturists, pet item vendors, the Capt’n Crabby food truck and the Radar Run.

By popular demand, the Wiener Dog Races are back this year, with Dachshunds competing in three categories: Little Links, Bratwurst and Senior Schnitzel.

Finally, pups can compete in a costume contest, winning prizes from the Nautical Dog for the most original dog costume and the best duo costume. Judging will begin at 2 p.m.

Here’s the lineup of events:

  • Dog Radar Run: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Free Dog Caricatures: 1 p.m. – 4 p.m.
  • Dog Costume Contest: 2 p.m.
  • Best Duo Costume Contest: 2:15 p.m.
  • Wiener Dog Races: 3:30 p.m.

This year is sponsored by The Cove – Center of Veterinary Expertise, A Happy Place Pet Playground and Lodge, Nautical Dog, Animal Clinic and Wellness Center and PetSmart.
