VIRGINIA BEACH — Circumstances surrounding a botched robbery early Wednesday at a local Harris Teeter grocery store where one man was shot remain unclear.

But police did release a security camera image of a “person of interest.”

Police said officers were sent to the store at 5060 Ferrell Parkway at around 12:43 a.m. on a report of a man with a gunshot wound.

There, police “located an adult male victim suffering from a gunshot wound,” according to a news release from the Virginia Beach Police Department.

He was taken to a local hospital with what police described as “non-life-threatening injuries.”

Employees told officers three black men, one of them armed with a gun, attempted to rob the store.

Police said the heist was unsuccessful and the three suspects fled the scene empty-handed.

All three suspects were wearing dark clothing and had masks on.

No other information about the incident was immediately released.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have information about the suspects to call the Virginia Beach Crime Line at 888-LOCK-U-UP.
