As gas prices rise throughout the nation, Virginians can fill up their tanks at a steady price, according to a report from AAA Tidewater Virginia.

The current average price for gas in Virginia is $2.62 per gallon, which ranks the state as fifth least expensive for gas. In Hampton Roads, the number is even lower, averaging at $2.59 a gallon.

Even with the low price, the cost of gas in Hampton Roads is still 28 cents more than it was at this time last year.

Nationally, the average gas price has increased to the highest price since July, averaging at $2.88 a gallon.

The increase in prices occurred despite an increase in crude oil inventories barrels, according to data from the Energy Information Administration. This new data will leave the market looking to identify supply constraints which could cause prices to rise even higher this fall.
