This event will have info about academic programs and services available to students

Virginia Beach City Public Schools is hosting its second annual Navigating the Journey citywide event, an information night for students and families to learn about the multitude of academic programs and services available to students throughout their educational experience – prekindergarten through graduation.

The free event will be on Oct. 16, from 5:30-8 p.m. at the Virginia Beach Convention Center, 1000 19th St.

Attendees can take advantage of this one-stop information night to learn about an array of services and programs at more than 50 exhibition booths.

VBCPS representatives will be available at each information table, some of which include preschool assessment, prekindergarten, gifted education, special education services, academic and career planning, Advanced Placement and dual enrollment courses and school counseling, according to a news release from VBCPS.

In addition, 25-minute breakout sessions will be held throughout the evening for families to learn more about specific topics, including high school academies, international baccalaureate programs as well as transitioning between elementary school, middle school and high school.

Navigating the Journey is an expansion of the school division’s former Academy and Advanced Academic Programs Night, which previously showcased the options offered specifically for VBCPS high school students. Each of the academies and advanced academic programs will still be represented at this year’s fair.

A full listing of all exhibits and a schedule of information sessions are posted on vbschools.com.
