Here’s what you can ‘e-cycle’ in Virginia Beach this weekend

VIRGINIA BEACH — If you’re not sure what to do with your old electronic devices, there’s a solution coming on Saturday.

That’s when residents will have a chance to recycle their old electronic devices at the Virginia Aquarium, in partnership with Goodwill Industries, the City of Virginia Beach Public Works and TFC Recycling.

The semi-annual e-cycling event is Saturday from 9 a.m. to noon at the Virginia Aquarium’s east parking lot, according to a news release.

There is no fee to drop off items.

Here are is a list of devices that will be accepted:

  • Personal computers and laptops
  • Telephones, cellphones and PDAs
  • Printers
  • Circuit boards and computer components
  • Monitors and flat screens
  • Fax machines
  • Stereo equipment and game systems
  • Regular recycling materials such as newspapers, bottles and cans will also be accepted.
  • Note that cathode ray tube televisions cannot be accepted

Household hazardous waste items will also be accepted for recycling at the event.

Acceptable items for recycling include:

  • Up to 5 gallons of liquids or up to 75 pounds of dry materials
  • Aerosol spray cans
  • Automotive fluids
  • Batteries: Alkaline (AA, AAA, C, D), as well as batteries for boats, cars, trucks cameras, cellphones, hearing aids, lead acid and lithium batteries, and rechargeables
  • Herbicides
  • Pesticides
  • Fertilizer
  • Gasoline (up to 5 gallons)
  • Household cleaners
  • Pool chemicals
  • Light bulbs — small quantities of CFLs or fluorescent tube lighting
  • Oil and water based paint
  • Propane tanks up to 20-pound capacity
