You can now use voice-activated devices to find info about Virginia Beach

VIRGINIA BEACH — Residents here have a new, easier and more accessible way to get information about the city.

VB Connect, the official mobile app for Virginia Beach City government that connects residents with key information and services, can now be accessed using Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant

Looking for job opportunities with the City of Virginia Beach? Need to know your next recycling pick-up day? Now you can just ask Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, two voice-activated services that are now synced with VB Connect.

From recent city news items, job listings, events to property information, voting districts and waste collection schedules, city information is just a voice command away.

Once residents download the VB Connect skill on their device, they can ask questions to get a variety of information.

“Our goal is to empower citizens where they are,” said Peter Wallace, the city’s chief information officer. “Whether residents use a smart speaker, smartphone, tablet or a desktop computer, they are able to connect with the city on their preferred device.”

Wallace said as the city expands the program, it anticipates including more voice-activated services. He added enabling this access to VB Connect aligns with Virginia Beach’s smart city strategy, which leverages innovative technology to enhance quality of life for all citizens.
