WJCC Schools extends upcoming early release days to make up for Florence cancellations

Two of Williamsburg-James City County Schools’ previously scheduled early release days will now be full school days to make up for classroom time lost due to Hurricane Florence.

Oct. 19 and Dec. 19 will now both be full school days for students and staff, WJCC Schools said in a news release. The school division will also use banked time to recoup for the second day of school lost because of Florence.

Hurricane Florence caused WJCC Schools to close Sept. 12 and Sept. 14.

The school division is still on-pace, meaning the day before Thanksgiving, Nov. 21, is still part of Thanksgiving break. If another weather or unforeseen event forces school to close again, the day before Thanksgiving could be used as a makeup day, the release said.

The new makeup plan announced Tuesday still maintains banked time for school closures due to snow and ice in the winter.

An updated copy of the 2018-2019 school calendar is available on the school division website.
