At long last, Publix has announced the date of its grand opening in Williamsburg.

Publix will open Wednesday, Oct. 17, said Publix Super Markets Media and Community Relations Manager Kimberly Reynolds. A grand opening is scheduled for 7 a.m.

Food samples will be available for customers at the grand opening, and shoppers will receive a free reusable bag at checkout.

Publix operates more than 1,100 stores across Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, North and South Carolina and Virginia.

The supermarket chain announced in November 2017 it would open a store at the site of the former Martin’s in the Monticello Marketplace, 4660 Monticello Avenue.

Martin’s closed in July 2017.

Publix held a job fair earlier in September and Reynolds said the store will employ around 140 people.
