Starting Saturday, Colonial Williamsburg will make admission to its Art Museums free in celebration of Smithsonian Magazine’s 14th-annual Museum Day.
The free admission special will run from Saturday to Sept. 29, Colonial Williamsburg said in a news release.
The offer covers the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Art Museum and the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum.
“Colonial Williamsburg offers guests living history and so much more, including our two world-renowned art museums,” said Ronald L. Hurst, Colonial Williamsburg’s Carlisle H. Humelsine chief curator and vice president for collections, conservation and museums. “We’re celebrating all they offer by inviting friends and newcomers to enjoy the fun and enrichment of the Art Museums, from fascinating exhibitions to daily educational and interpretive programs.”
At the DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum, guests can experience British and American fine and decorative arts from 1670 to 1840. The museum currently has exhibits showcasing the work of the foundation’s senior upholstery conservator, early-American professional portraiture and a collection of printed textiles that span more than 100 years.
The Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Folk Art Museum has the nation’s premiere collection of American folk art, the release said. Current exhibits include early American folk portraits, Navajo weavings and a collection of sewn and hooked rugs.
The free admission to the museums includes tours and Hennage Auditorium performances such as “First impressions,” “1607: Music for a Newfound Land,” and “Change is Coming.” More information can be found on the Art Museums’ schedule of events.
The free museum tickets can be found at Colonial Williamsburg ticketing locations.
The Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg are located at the intersection of Francis and South Henry streets in the Historic Area.
