YORK COUNTY — The new Big Lots store on Mooretown Road has an opening date.
Big Lots, a value-oriented retailer that sells furniture, home decor, toys and other products, will open Oct. 5 in the Victory Village shopping center in York County, according to a press release from Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg.
Big Lots announced in March that it would be opening a new store in 2018, with the target date of July.
The grand opening kicks off at 8:30 a.m Friday, Oct. 5, according to the release. Habitat for Humanity, an international nonprofit that constructs affordable housing, will be partnering with Big Lots for the first six weeks of the store’s operation, through Nov. 17.
As part of the partnership, Big Lots will donate $5 to Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg for every reward members redeem at the new store. Members will redeem rewards by making in-store purchases.
“All those points will eventually lead to more affordable housing that we’re able to build in the Greater Williamsburg area,” said Michael Jones, Habitat for Humanity Peninsula and Greater Williamsburg manager of first impressions. He said the funding will go toward Habitat for Humanity’s home-buyer and home-repair programs.
Jones said Habitat for Humanity staff will be on hand at the grand opening to explain their work and encourage customers to sign up for the reward programs.
Jone said he is excited to work with Big Lots.
“This has the potential to be a really great partnership, so we want to do our best to help them, and that way they can in turn help us,” Jones said.
Formerly known as the Williamsburg Marketcenter, tenants at Victory Village include Home Depot, Chick-fil-A and Ross Dress for Less. Big Lots is moving into the location formerly occupied by Ukrops.
