Busch Gardens Williamsburg will not be open for the first day of Howl-O-Scream because of inclement weather caused by Hurricane Florence.
The park will be closed Saturday but plans to reopen for regular Howl-O-Scream operations at 10 a.m. Sunday, Busch Gardens spokeswoman Cindy Sarko said Thursday.
As Florence makes its way west toward the East Coast, a tropical storm warning is in effect from Poquoson to the Virginia-North Carolina border.
Busch Gardens’ closure Saturday will ensure the safety of guests, park staff and animals, Sarko said.
Howl-O-Scream was originally scheduled to debut Saturday. The annual fright fest runs on select dates through Oct. 28. Haunts and ghouls come out at 6 p.m. and the event is included with park admission.
This year’s Howl-O-Scream features seven haunted houses, six “Terror-tories,” five new bars, two party zones and two escape-room experiences.
