VIRGINIA BEACH — Next time you head to the Sandler Center for a show, take note of the “green” activities the performing arts center supports.
In recognition of its efforts, the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts was recently recognized as a “fully-certified” Green Attraction by the Virginia Green Travel Alliance.
“We are very proud to announce that the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts has re-certified its environmental commitments through the Virginia Green Travel certification program,” said Tom Griffin, executive director of the Virginia Green Travel Alliance.
The Sandler Center has been recognized as a green partner since 2008, thanks to its green activities such as recycling, waste reduction, energy and water conservation, and the eliminated use of polystyrene.
“Committed partners like Sandler are making significant reductions in the amounts of waste they produce and the energy and water they use,” Griffin said.
The 1,300-seat performing arts venue opened in November of 2007.
Virginia Green is a partnership that is supported by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality; the Virginia Restaurant, Lodging and Travel association; the Virginia Tourism Cooperation; and the Virginia Green Travel Alliance.
