NORFOLK — Naval Station Norfolk, the largest naval complex in the world, will conduct a change in command on Friday.
Capt. Bradley N. Rosen will assume the duties as its 48th Commanding Officer and relieve Capt. Richard C. McDaniel during a change of command ceremony at 11:30 a.m. at the naval base’s Vista Point Conference Center.
McDaniel will transfer to Washington, D.C. to Commander, Navy Installations Command.
Rosen was previously assigned to Naval Station Norfolk where he served as the executive officer.
Rosen is a native of Randolph, New Jersey and a 1995 graduate of the United States Naval Academy where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Political Science (with honors). He also received a Masters in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005.
While serving as executive officer, the squadron completed a tri-site deployment to El Salvador, Italy, and Djibouti in support of counter-narcotics operations and Operation Enduring Freedom–Horn of Africa. After assuming command, the squadron completed a second six-month deployment to Kadena Air Base, Japan in support of maritime patrol operations throughout the Western Pacific.

Rosen’s awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, two Navy Meritorious Service Medals, Air Medal, four Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals, two Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal, and various other campaign medals and unit awards.
Naval Station Norfolk covers 6,200 acres plus outlying properties and contains more than 600 significant facilities. It has 13 piers and an 8,000-foot airfield, supporting more than 59 ships and more than 187 aircraft and 18 squadrons. The Naval Station employs more than 116,600 people, which includes military and civilian personnel. The annual payroll is approximately $9.2 billion.
