VIRGINIA BEACH — Lynnhaven River Now is a hosting a workshop for all teachers through grade 5 on the beauty, value, and functions of trees.

The workshop is on Aug. 21, 8 a.m. to noon at Birdneck Elementary School.

The workshop takes an inter-disciplinary approach to learning about the value of trees, not just for wood products, but in helping the environment, according to a news release from Lynnhaven River Now.

Participants will learn how to determine the carbon sequestration value, to identify tree species, to understand the role trees play in stabilizing environments and increasing biodiversity, as well as learning more about the basic biology of trees.

The workshop is designed to help teachers create products that add to the knowledge of local urban tree canopies.

This workshop is free and open to all educators and program leaders for elementary age children.
