VIRGINIA BEACH — Attention ladies: Here’s your chance to catch an ocean breeze, a few billfish and a cure for breast cancer at the 16th annual ladies-only Wine, Women & Fishing Charity Billfish Tournament on Sunday.

Funds raised will benefit breast cancer research at Eastern Virginia Medical School.

Former local news reporter and cancer survivor Jane Gardner will be this year’s guest of honor, according to a news release.

To date, Wine, Women & Fishing has raised $670,000 for breast cancer research at EVMS.

Each year, hundreds of spectators watch the decorated boats come in to the weigh station as part of the Crazy Crew contest.

The day on the water will conclude with the awards banquet and party including wine and bourbon tastings, specialty summer cocktails and handcrafted goods crafted by local artisans.

Guava Jam will be providing live music throughout the celebration.

In a nutshell:

  • WHERE: “The View” at Rudee Inlet, 416 Southside Road, Virginia Beach.
  • WHEN:  Sunday, Aug. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m.
  • WHY: This fishing tournament organized exclusively for women anglers supports efforts to find a cure for breast cancer.
