A guest staying at Great Wolf Lodge on Monday captured a lightning strike on camera as it struck the outside of a lodge building.

Julia Van was visiting the Greater Williamsburg area from San Diego with her family when she started filming a thunderstorm outside Great Wolf Lodge. The video captured the lightning hitting the roof.

She also captured the small fire that ensued after the strike.

York County fire officials said the lightning struck the water park building, at 549 E. Rochambeau Drive, around 6:30 p.m..

There was no evidence the fire spread from that area.

People inside the water park building were relocated to the main hotel area.

Firefighters monitored the building for any other issues, then returned later to follow up and check on the facility, York County Fire Chief Stephen Kopczynski said.
