The Artists Gallery is moving

VIRGINIA BEACH – The Artists Gallery will be moving to the ViBe District before the end of the year.

At 532 Virginia Beach Blvd., the 29-year–old gallery will become part of a newly established Virginia Beach Art Center, which will also include exhibition space, art education and a fully-equipped pottery program.

It will continue to operate as a nonprofit cooperative of local and regional artists, with expanded studios and exhibiting space in the new quarters, according to a news release from The Artists Gallery.

Visitors can watch artists at work and see a wide range of over 40 chosen artists’ paintings, photography, jewelry and sculpture.

The Virginia Beach Art Center is a nonprofit dedicated to art education and outreach, and its inclusion of the gallery adds a new dimension to the opportunities for beginning and emerging artists. The chance to learn, discuss and develop with a community of established artists will be a unique feature of its arts education program.

The Center is currently conducting a capital campaign to raise the necessary funds to build out and equip the facility. The new Art Center will bring a much stronger visual art presence to the ViBe, which has lacked a well-established gallery until now, according to the news release.

The Pottery will be a continuation of the successful City Parks and Recreation Pottery Program. The more than 30-year-old program faced closure because of changes in city facilities, but can now continue as part of the Art Center.  A robust series of classes are planned, according to The Artists Gallery.

The Art Center’s large exhibition area will host a series of monthly themed shows which a wider group of invited artists can enter and compete for prizes. Themes such as “Fabulous Forgeries”, “Great, Small Things” and “Picture Perfect” will challenge the creativity of participating artists and elicit fascinating interpretations.

As well as the Pottery, the Art Center will host numerous classes in painting, drawing and other visual arts, with special programs for youth, families and tourists.
