VIRGINIA BEACH — Over the next couple of months, children and families will have the opportunity to show up in Town Center and do a little bit of fun family exercising.
The YMCA is providing a variety of offerings in Fountain Plaza intended to get kids and families moving, and to also give them a taste of some of the things they can find at area Ys.
“Generally, the Traveling Y is our version of taking our health and wellness programs outside the walls of the Y,” said Amelia Baker, vice president of analytics and marketing research.
On Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from Aug. 2 to Sept. 29, the public will have the opportunity to take part in things like family dance parties, parent/child yoga, balance and flex, and MixxedFit.
Baker said all of the offerings are a variation of what is offered at the YMCA locations.
“People can try it and get the hang of it, and if they like it they can go to a regular Y and do it,” she said.
All of the Town Center offerings will be free and are open to the public. No equipment is needed.
Baker said it’s important to be exposed to health and well-being at a young age, especially when it’s something parents and children can do together and can build from.
“Having the entire family doing it is important. It keeps everybody active and moving,” she said, adding that YMCA programs focus on youth development, health and well-being, and social responsibility, as do these Travelling Y offerings.
