Two teenagers, one 16 years old and one 19, have been charged with gun-related offenses after an early morning incident on York Street, police said.

Williamsburg Police were patrolling in the 200 block of York Street around 3:55 a.m. Sunday when they saw a group of eight to 12 young men gathered together, police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley said.

When the officers approached the group, some of the men separated themselves and “moved away from the officer,” Riley said.

A second officer on scene followed the people who had separated themselves from the group, finding a discarded firearm along their path.

After picking up the gun, all of the men in the group were detained and checked for weapons.

One of the men, Na’Sean Taion Drew, 19, of Waverly, was allegedly found in possession of a stolen firearm.  He was charged with possession of a stolen firearm and carrying a concealed weapon.

Drew was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail. He is currently out on bond and scheduled for an initial court appearance at 8:30 a.m. Aug. 14.

A second person on scene, a 16-year-old boy, was also found in possession of a firearm. Officers obtained a petition charging the boy with possession of a handgun by a juvenile, and he was transported to the Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center.
