VIRGINIA BEACH — Police here said officers were clearing the scene of a traffic stop Friday morning when a 2008 Chevy SUV collided with two of their police cars.

The driver if the SUV, 21-year-old Gillian Marie Scorrano, of Virginia Beach, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Police said a marked unit was conducting an unrelated traffic stop westbound on Interstate 64 near the First Colonial Road exit.

Two other police units arrived to assist. It was when officers were getting ready to leave that police said Scorrano’s SUV “collided with two of the police cars.”

All three vehicles had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.

Virginia law requires drivers approaching a stationary emergency vehicle, including a tow truck, that is displaying flashing lights to vacate the lane closest to the stationary vehicle if safe to do so, or slow to a speed safe for highway conditions. Also included in the law are road maintenance and utility vehicles.
