Three men have been arrested in connection with an attempted robbery and assault by a mob on Country Club Drive in James City County.

Police responded around 1 a.m. July 29 to the 100 block of Country Club Drive for a report of an assault, James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams said.

The 21-year-old victim reported that he had been picked up by a vehicle driven by Christopher Madeira, 20, of York County. There was also a female in the car, but she is not currently facing charges, Williams said.

After being picked up, two men in masks approached the vehicle, pulled the victim from the car, and began to assault him and demand he empty out his pockets, Williams said.

The victim emptied his pockets, showing eyeglasses, a vaping device and a cell phone.

None of the men took any items from the victim, and he did not sustain injuries or go to the hospital.

The two men in the masks were later identified as 18-year-old Austin Madeira, of York, and 18-year-old Alec Monteiro, of James City County.

Williams said the relationship between the victim and the three men is unknown. The investigation is ongoing.

Christopher Madeira was arrested July 29 and is facing a charge of assault and battery by mob.
