Virginia’s gasoline prices remain among the lowest in the nation despite demand pressures that caused the national average to jump 2 cents a gallon this week, AAA Tidewater Virginia says.
Average gas prices this week in Virginia are $2.61 per gallon, which is 25 cents cheaper than the national average of $2.86.
However, Virginia’s low prices may not stick around for long, warns Georjeane Blumling, vice president of public affairs for AAA Tidewater Virginia.
“Virginia could see gas prices begin to rise as crude and gasoline inventories tighten,” Blumling said. “On the week, pump prices have increased a penny in Virginia where some states are seeing an 11 cent uptick in gas prices.”
While this week’s average price is 1 cent lower than last month, prices are 52 cents higher than at this time last year, she said.
