VIRGINIA BEACH — The man charged with killing a Virginia Beach woman confessed to police that he choked her to death, according to court documents filed in the case.
Lamont Johnson was arraigned Monday on a charge of second-degree murder in connection with Bellamy Gamboa’s death.
Johnson, 41, confessed to “pushing the victim down the stairs and falling on her” and also admitted to “choking the victim until she was dead,” according to court documents.
Johnson also allegedly admitted to placing Gamboa in a bag and “taking her to Chesapeake.”
Her body has not been recovered.
Johnson is the father of Gamboa’s twin children. He’s also charged with four counts of contributing to delinquency, abuse of child . He was arrested Sunday.
Police said the other charges “are related to specific events involving the children held in common,” between Johnson and Gamboa.
Johnson has previous arrests for DUI, refusing a breathalyzer test and urinating in public, all from June 2012, according to court records.
Gamboa, 40, was reported missing July 1. She was last seen at 10 p.m. at her apartment in the Diamond Springs area.
Gamboa’s 2005 Gold 4-door Ford Focus was found July 3 parked next to a dumpster in the 5800 block of Pickering Street, which was fewer than four miles from where she was last seen, police said.
Gamboa’s family issued a statement Sunday night, but declined to comment further, deferring all questions about the case to Virginia Beach Police.
Johnson is being held in the Virginia Beach city jail without bond – a bond hearing is scheduled for Tuesday.
He was assigned a public defender.
