UPDATED: Body found inside semi that plunged off Chesapeake Bay Bridge

UPDATE, 1:53 p.m. Sunday: According to the Virginia Marine Resources Division, a body was pulled around 12:30 p.m. from the Chesapeake Bay, a several miles from where the semi plunged of the bridge. Officials said the body matched the description of the passenger in the semi. The medical examiner will confirm the identity.

ORIGINAL STORY:

Divers on Saturday found a body inside a semitrailer that plunged off the Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel Friday night.

According to the Coast Guard, divers went into the water at around 6:30 a.m., and the body was found shortly before 8 a.m. Authorities believe the body was that of the semi driver, who has not been identified.

Authorities said the semi was involved in a collision with a minivan near mile marker 12 southbound at around 6:30 p.m. Friday. The occupants of the van were not seriously injured.

The Coast Guard could not confirm whether there was a second occupant in the semi.

Further information about the incident was not immediately released.
