Flood warning issued for Virginia Beach

The National Weather Service in Wakefield has issued a flood warning for Virginia Beach until 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, according to a news release.

The weather service cited large bands of heavy rain due to impact the city Tuesday afternoon, along with the two inches of rain the city received Tuesday morning, as reasons for the flood warning.

An additional two inches of rain is possible through this afternoon, according to the weather service.

Numerous roads were closed Tuesday morning in the Sandbridge, Pungo, Dam Neck and  Creeds areas of Virginia Beach, according to the news release.

The weather service said most flood deaths occur in vehicles — drivers should not drive through flooded roads.
