YORK — A Newport News man has been arrested after he allegedly sexually assaulted a 10-year-old girl in York County.
Ronald Smalley, 30, surrendered Tuesday at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail on outstanding warrants for felony aggravated sexual battery of a child and contributing to the delinquency of a minor, York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Shelley Ward said.
Authorities believe he sexually assaulted the girl June 30 inside a residence in the 100 block of Walnut Drive.
The victim’s mother reported the incident to the sheriff’s office, Ward added.
Court records show Smalley has previously been charged with other offenses, including assault and battery, grand larceny and possession of a controlled substance. Some of the charges date back to 2008.
