This weekend’s weather has dampened the fun for area gamers.

The first  Virtual Reality Gaming Festival had been scheduled for Friday at the McReynolds Athletic Complex in Yorktown. However, showers are expected both Friday, the festival’s original date, and Saturday, which would have been the event’s rain date, said Shannon Combs of Lux Events, the festival’s sponsor.

The festival — which was scheduled to feature about 15 virtual reality games —  uses a large amount of electricity, and wet grounds could pose a safety hazard, Combs said.

Weather already had caused organizers to reschedule the festival from this spring to this week. Lux Events said they will try to host the festival next spring.
