Update 3:20 p.m.: James City County Police have identified a man who was killed in a single-vehicle accident Thursday morning as 58-year-old county resident David Eugene Lake.
The accident happened about 11 a.m. in the 4300 block of John Tyler Highway. Lake was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to police, Lake was driving a 2012 Ford F-150 pickup eastbound on John Tyler Highway when the truck crossed into the oncoming traffic lane, veered off the road and struck a tree.
Lake was not wearing a seat belt. Police say neither alcohol nor speed were factors in the crash.
he 4300 block of John Tyler Highway remains closed until the tree, which has been deemed a hazard to motorists, can be removed.
Original Story: JAMES CITY — One person was killed Thursday in a single-car crash on John Tyler Highway, James City County Police said.
The crash happened around 11 a.m. near St. George’s Hundred, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.
Only one person was in the vehicle, Rubino said.
