Tactical officers were deployed to a James City County neighborhood Monday afternoon after receiving a report of a man who was “possibly suicidal,” police said.
James City County Police and Fire Department responded to the Jamestown 1607 neighborhood around 1 p.m. Monday, Deputy Chief Steve Rubino said.
The man was in his own home and police limited access to the 2100 block of London Company Way as the incident occurred, Rubino said. Tactical units from James City County Police, the fire department and EMS were deployed around the property.
The man was taken into custody without incident before 2:45 p.m.
“Other than securing the area, we didn’t kick down the door or anything, he came out willingly,” Rubino said.
Rubino added the man was unarmed and was not seen as a threat to anyone other than himself.
After surrendering, the man was taken in for a mental health evaluation. Rubino did not say where the man was taken and is unaware of his current status.
