VIRGINIA BEACH — While he may not be on the same level of fame as his fellow Virginian presidents George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, James Monroe is said to have been liked and admired for his sensible judgment, honesty, and personal kindness.

On July 3 attendees will get a chance to get to know our nation’s fifth president a little better when Live! On Atlantic presents “An Evening with President James Monroe” featuring Dennis Bigelow, the world’s foremost Monroe interpreter.

For years, Bigelow has performed at Ash Lawn-Highland, Monroe’s home, which is next to Thomas Jefferson’s home Monticello in Charlottesville.

“This is a rare chance to see a true professional re-enactor draw comparisons between the presidencies of James Monroe and Donald Trump,” said Bobby Melatti, vice president of IMGoing Entertainment Company. “It will take you back to Monroe’s time as a Virginia senator, Virginia governor, Secretary of State and War for the Madison Administration, and as president from 1817-1825.”

Following the 45-minute presentation, Melatti said Bigelow will take questions from the audience.

Monroe was delegate to the Continental Congress and fought with the Continental Army in the Revolutionary War.

The show begins at 8:30 p.m. at the 24th Street Park. It is free and open to the public and those attending are encouraged to bring a blanket or a chair to sit on.
