York County to celebrate armed forces this weekend

York County will honor members of the military from the Revolutionary War to today with a special Armed Forces Appreciation Weekend this Saturday and Sunday in Yorktown.

The weekend will feature special events and exhibits at the Watermen’s Museum, York County Historical Museum at York Hall, Museum on Main, Colonial National Historical Park, the American Revolution Museum at Yorktown and Riverwalk Landing.

Among Saturday’s events will be vendors, craft demonstrators, living history tours and historic music, including a USO-themed swing dance.

Sunday’s events will highlight the history of the Coast Guard with a tribute to the 1813 battle of the U.S. Revenue Cutter Surveyor and will end with a patriotic concert by the York River Symphony Orchestra.
