Police in Hampton said the body recovered June 3 in the waters of Buckroe Beach is that of a Virginia Beach man.
Authorities identified the man as Tasket Goldfinch Walker. He was 39 years old.
An official cause of death was not released Thursday.
Walker went swimming June 1. Around 7:30 p.m., police said they received a report of a man that walked into the water at the beach “and appeared to be struggling to stay afloat after getting into the water.”
“The Hampton Police Division’s Homeland Security Unit, and the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue’s Marine Emergency Response Team, along with the United States Coast Guard responded to the area in an attempt to locate the individual,” authorities wrote in a news release.
The search continued June 2, but “all efforts on this date proved unsuccessful in locating the missing swimmer,” police said.
Then around 12:50 p.m. June 3, divers from the Hampton Police Division and the Hampton Division of Fire and Rescue assigned to the Hampton Public Safety Dive Team, found a man’s body, later identified as Walker.
