These ‘little libraries’ are about to have a bigger presence in the area

NORFOLK — For those who love reading, this book is for you.

The Norfolk Little Free Library project is placing 20 book exchanges across the city to foster literacy and community spirit, according to the Norfolk Public Library.

Little Free Library is a national organization that encourages literacy through the implementation of reading programs, which include the building little libraries in neighborhoods that provide free access to books. Those books can be dropped off and picked up by anyone with no registration required.

Each Little Free Library requires a steward who will agree to maintain the book exchange on their property and help keep it stocked with books. There is no cost to the steward for the wooden book exchange, mounting or installation.

There is also a searchable map for all of the Little Free Libraries available nationwide.

An additional six stewards are still needed to round out the 20 exchanges that have been proposed in Norfolk, according to a news release from the NPL.
