The driver who crashed a tractor-trailer on Interstate 64 in Norfolk Wednesday morning, has been charged with following too closely.
Virginia State Police said the crash caused the closure of the westbound lanes of I-64 at Willoughby Spit for nearly 3 ½ hours.
A state police investigation indicated James Ozmar III, of Jarratt, was driving a 1998 GMC work truck pulling a trailer at around 6:54 a.m.
Police said in an effort to avoid hitting a vehicle in front of him, Ozmar’s truck ran off the roadway, overturned and struck the guardrail.
For a while, the tractor-trailer was over the jersey wall hanging over the bridge/water, state police said.
Police said he suffered “non-life-threatening” injuries.
All lanes were reopened at 10:15 a.m., state police said.
No other vehicles were involved and no other injuries were reported.
