NORFOLK — Police here are releasing very few details about an incident Friday involving the death of an 11-year-old girl.
On Sunday, police announced that the girl’s mother Latoya M. Smith, 33, and Smith’s boyfriend, Demont J. Harris, 43, have been arrested in connection with the child’s death.
Both are charged with second-degree murder.
Smith and Harris are being held without bond in Norfolk City Jail.
Around 8:10 a.m. Friday, Norfolk Fire-Rescue along with police responded to the 100 block of Balview Avenue on a call about an unresponsive 11-year-old girl.
According to a police news release, “when first responders arrived, they came in contact with the child who sustained serious injuries; she was pronounced deceased on-scene.”
Police didn’t say what type of injuries the child had.
No other information about the incident was immediately released.
