VIRGINIA BEACH — With the creation of the city’s technology zone off Dam Neck Road, a future of increased global connectivity is looking more promising for this city.
ACA International, LLC, announced that in addition to relocating its corporate headquarters to Virginia Beach, it will be partnering with South Atlantic Express International Ltd. to install the city’s third high-speed subsea cable, according to a news release from the city.
The 72 terabit per second bandwidth SAEx cable will be the sole existing system linking South Africa straight to the United States. Additionally, its partner system will include a network from Fortaleza, Brazil. These partnerships are part of a long-term goal to include the second phase from South Africa to Asia — creating a truly diverse transatlantic network.

“Extending SAEx to the United States will boost access to the worldwide infrastructure and open up traffic diversity to increase access and service reliability, as demand from consumers and businesses grows rapidly,” said Rosalind Thomas, managing director of SAEx International.
The groundwork has already been laid out for the completion of the telecommunications system. Dominion Energy requirements, including certified power, as well as other necessities such as a cable landing, available fiber access hubs and permits, have already been planned out.
