York High School’s principal kept her promise.
Principal Shannon Butler of York High School went skydiving Saturday as part of a fundraising campaign.
In February, Butler told seniors Nicholas Searcy and Nichole Springhorn she would jump out of a plane if they raised more than $15,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Using Butler’s pledge to encourage donations, Springhorn and Searcy raised $20,000.
True to her word, Butler made the jump at Skydive Suffolk Saturday. She also landed safely before a cheering crowd.
For their efforts, Searcy and Springhorn were named Virginia Students of the Year by the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Virginia chapter.
