Just in time for spring, the butterflies in Williamsburg will have a new home.
The York County Parks, Recreation and Tourism Department is establishing a new butterfly habitat in an effort to revitalize the two-acre Bobwhite Quail Habitat in New Quarter Park.
The habitat will introduce pollinators intended to help attract butterflies the area, according to York County’s website.
Volunteers are needed to help at noon on Saturday to work with the Virginia Master Naturalists and Student Conservation Association.
Volunteers will plant flowers, pull weeds and help to build a trail through the new habitat. They will also get the chance to make wildflower “seed bombs” which are made of soil, clay, and seeds rolled into little balls.
The volunteer opportunity is available to all ages and gloves and tools will be provided. If volunteers have their own tools, though, they are encouraged to bring them. It is suggested to wear long pants and a water bottle since the work will take place outdoors.
To register, visit the event online or call 757-890-3513.
